Summary

Variable Air Volume

Description

Variable air volume (VAV) refers to a method of ensuring that the correct environmental conditions are maintained, such as heating or ventilation through the control of the capacity of air flow through the system.

For example if the air temperature is to remain at a constant value then th e amount of air moved through the ducting must rise or fall dependent on the the varying conditions of the zone it is managing.

As variable speed fans can be used for this design, the energy consumed can vary between high and low demand cycles and so energy efficiency is enhanced.
