Sustainable IT is an emerging term that is based on and uses the concepts of Green IT. It considers the full life-cycle of IT products rather than looks for short-term benefits alone. Covering three main areas of sustainability; environment, economic and social impacts, Sustainable IT initiatives can be summarised as including:

• responsible purchasing practises

• resource usage reduction

• increased lifespan of existing assets

• waste and disposal management policies

• supporting business CSR initiatives
