Psychrometry is the field of engineering concerned with the determination of physical and thermodynamic properties of gas-vapour mixtures and so has a pre-dominant influence on the air conditioning, heating and cooling of a data centre.

The characteristics of the data centre are depicted by ASHRAE in psychrometric chart format which is a graph showing the thermodynamic properties of moist air at a constant pressure, such as sea level.
