Oversizing

Oversizing
Summary

The act of implementing considerably more resources than necessary

Description

In IT terms for the data centre, this could mean that the physical infrastructure (NCPI) has been built to cater for considerably more IT processing requirement than is currently necessary and that the long term projected requirement has been established.

This conforms to the traditional model of data centre design when the NCPI could take hundreds of days to design, purchase and implement. Consequently, the cost of delay were outweighed by the potential cost to business of lack of functionality for IT service delivery.

Due to modular design and implementation methods now available for data centres, the over-sizing model is no longer a cost-effective solution.
