Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool

EPEAT is originally a US-based system for identifying products that have been designed with clear environmental attributes incorporated in their design. With a focus on desktop computers, notebooks and monitors, the standardisation on environmental design can help purchasing organisations align proven GHG-friendly products against their IT purchase requirements.

EPEAT has been extended to an international purchasing registry which will allow manufacturers to list ‘green’ computers and monitors in 40 countries covering the US, Canada, various European countries, China, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil and Mexico. As products are not the same in every country the original list had little value to purchasing managers outside of the US.
