Carbon Reduction Commitment

CRC - the UK cap and trade scheme for reducing carbon emissions

The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC), is a key component of the UK's approach to carbon management and the reduction of carbon emissions throughout the UK economy.

It's aim is to provide control to emissions outside of existing Climate Change Agreements and the EU Emissions Trading System and is expected to be active from April 2010.

The CRC is aimed at large organisations who are responsible for the greater part of the emissions within UK plc and among other conditions, applies to any organisation, commercial or not, that consumes over 6000MWh per annum.

There are many aspects of the CRC that are as yet unconfirmed and are being worked on by the UK government during 2009.
