Carbon Footprint
| Carbon Footprint |
| Summary | A way of measuring of CO2E emissions |
|
| Description |
A method of accounting for the total amount of CO2E and other greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for which an individual or and organisation is responsible. When calculating the carbon footprint it is necessary to include as wide a range of emission sources as possible. This includes both direct emissions, such as the burning of fuel to heat water or run a generator and indirect emissions, such as employee travel or delivery costs for products. Calculating a comprehensive footprint is complex and should be conducted and audited using the formalised internationally agreed GHG protocol which was developed by the World Business Council for sustainable Development and the World Resources Institute. There are two main reasons for calculating and monitoring the carbon footprint. 1 - To enable managment and reduction of the carbon footprint over time. 2 - To support corporate governance and social responsibilities.
