CAGR
Summary

Compound Annual Growth Rate

Description

CAGR is a method to average out rates over time to present a balanced growth of a specific metric. For example, "Data centre capacity demand will grow at 10% CAGR over th next ten years". Although in each of th enext ten years, demand will increase at varying amounts, the average over the tem years will be 10%.

Calculation of the CAGR can be considered as:

(Current Value/Original Value)^(1/# of years) - 1

(Where ^ represents the exponetial value of).

If CO2 emissions are left unchecked for data centres, it is considered growth an 11% CAGR will occur. Therefore based on a 2007 value of 80 mtCO2, this translates to 340 mtCO2 in 2020.
