Branch Circuit Monitoring

Branch Circuit Monitoring is a method of energy monitoring for data centres that utilises additional hardware to capture the energy consumption.

It consists of meters and a control system that collect energy usage measurements for subsequent use by a separate analysis and reporting software tool.

BCM operates at the circuit level providing a high degree of granularity of collected data. The data is collected by wrapping a nonintrusive meters around the outside of the cables.

However, care should be taken when installing these meters as although the meters are non-invasive, application to main production servers and other devices should be approached with extreme planning to ensure that any potential risk to service delivery is minimised.
