The British Computer Society
The British Computer Society, BCS is the Chartered Institute for IT and promotes wider social and economic progress through the advancement of information technology science and practice.
It brings together industry, academics, practitioners and government to share knowledge, promote new thinking, inform the design of new curricula, shape public policy and inform the public.
The BCS has a mission "to enable the information society by promoting change and wider social and economic progress through the advancement of information technology, science and practice".
It works towards its mission through an ever increasing world-wide membership of over 70,000 members and through its specialist user groups that focus on specific aspects of IT.
The BCS is an important and influential organisation in setting IT direction and policy and has been instrumental in the definition of the European Union Code of Conduct on Data Centres Energy Efficiency.
